We had a great time these last few days getting ready for my personal favorite holiday! Our turkey feed was today, and the students had a blast wearing their turkey hats while eating their snacks. They all looked so silly in their hats! We also started a Lincoln tradition today: turkey bowling! Each class in the school chose one student to bowl a frame using, you guessed it, a turkey as a bowling ball. Gabi was our lucky bowler! It was so much fun to watch the students bowl and to be together as a school!
Since we only have three weeks of school before Christmas break, we got a head start on our Christmas activities this week. The students made three major art projects: a Christmas quilt for the hallway, a reindeer for our bulletin board, and an elf for the hallway. The elf had a writing component to go along with the craft. The students filled out an application for a job as an elf. Some of them had some pretty creative answers. My personal favorite answer to the question, “What is your favorite holiday?” was, “I love summer.” I wonder if that student will get hired? :)
We did some reviewing of our Jolly Phonics sounds and concepts this week. We continued to run through sounds everyday, and we did some extra practice with the board games for the first portion of the program. We also did some practice with tricky words.
For math, we reviewed our tricky teens again. These will be on our next report card, so I wanted to make sure the students had plenty of practice them. We practiced writing the numbers, counting groups of objects, and recognizing the numbers on number cards.
Please continue to send snow pants, boots, hats, and mittens with your child every day. Even if there isn’t snow on the ground, it is very cold outside. The winter gear gives the children an extra layer of warmth. Thanks!
As Christmas approaches, I have a few reminders for you. First, don’t forget about our gift exchanges. Boys should buy a present for boys, and girls should buy a present for girls. Please keep the gifts under $4.00. Also, if you feel inclined to get a gift for me (and you certainly don’t have to!), I have a few requests. Since I am new to kindergarten, I am in need of a few things for the classroom. Gift cards to Target, Walmart, or other stores would be very helpful! Also, books would be a great, great addition to my library. Thank you for being an amazing group of supportive parents!
Have a super, safe break and a happy Thanksgiving! I’ll see you on Monday!
