Wow, wow, wow! What an amazing day! I am blown away by the enormous thoughts the kiddos had today! I couldn't wait until my newsletter to tell you about it!
I started a research project with the children today. We used a research website, called PebbleGo, which is specifically designed for young readers (like us!). Our goal was to see what new things we could learn about sea animals.
Since today was the first day using this website, I let the children explore. They chose a sea animal, listened and read about that animal, and came to tell me what they had learned. Together, we created a Popplet, which is a way to organize information, of what they learned.
I have never seen this much enthusiasm from these kids! I wish you all could have been there! It was noisy, but not from the usual chatter about recess, lunch, and home; the children were so excited about what they were learning, they couldn't keep it to themselves. They were, quite literally, yelling across the computer lab to each other about the sea creatures. I couldn't stop them from running across the room as soon as they learned something new. They were so excited to add it to the Popplet!
I'm not exaggerating when I say we had the greatest afternoon of the entire school year! So full of learning and exploring! It was amazing!
Since you couldn't all be there, I snapped a few pictures for you to see what it was like. I wanted to take more, but, holy cow, I was busy typing in all of their information!

This is what they all looked like: eyes glued to the screen as they chose their animals and got busy!
This is what my line looked like! I couldn't keep up with everything they learned! Two of the girls were bouncing up and down with excitement over their new knowledge!
Here's the best part: I can share the Popplet with you! Click here, and it will take you there. I can't guarantee all of the facts are correct, since some of them got a little jumbled in their memories while they waited in line. We sure did have a blast though, and we learned a lot!
