Wow! Is it possible that we had a full week of school this week? Awesome! We had so much fun learning together this week. We faded out of our beach unit and into our Valentine’s Day unit. Much of our week has been spent writing our sea animal books. I am so proud of the hard work the kiddos put into these books! They are simply amazing, and I know the children are proud too! To get us ready for Valentine’s Day, we made our bags to collect our valentines next week. The students put in so much effort to make their bags look just right! We also painted some really fun valentines for the hallway.
On top of all our Valentine’s work, we had our 100th day of school today! I cannot believe we’ve been together for 100 days. I love the kiddos more than I thought possible, and I was so glad to be able to celebrate each other today! We had a blast wearing our super silly 100th day hats (each one complete with 100 stickers – minus a few as they fell off throughout the day). We made our special 100th day snack complete with 100 pieces of food. We searched for all the numbers from 1-100 on the walls of our classroom, and we used a 100s grid to count out the number of items in a bunch of different baggies. We also created a piece of artwork made out of the numbers 1, 0, and 0, and wrote about what our favorite part of school is so far. It was such a fun celebration! I can’t wait to see what the next 80 days of school bring us!
Our Jolly Phonics program taught us the different ways to make the “er” sound (ir, ur, and er) this week. We learned the tricky words what, why, and when. Boy, these were tricky for us! Please continue to practice each night at home. These words really help them out as they begin to read more and more books! We finished up Mya’s story this week.
In math this week, we did a beach storyboard. Our stories were similar to this: Two kids were at the beach. Together, they found 8 treasures. They needed to split them evenly. How many treasures does each child get? The students did a great job with these stories! We also used calculators to see the different ways we could count, and practiced using some different measuring tools (meter sticks, tape measures, and rulers). We also spent some time learning about 100s grids.
Thank you for your help with this week’s homework! It has been fun to talk about ways to keep our bodies healthy! Ask them about our egg experiments!
Next week, we’ll continue our Valentine’s unit. I love this holiday with young children!
Have a great weekend!
